The City Center Encores! production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes begins its limited engagement at the Manhattan venue May 9.

Encores! Production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes will feature Megan Hilty, previously seen in Wicked and 9 to 5. The soon to be sensation stars in the upcoming musical series “Smash” on NBC, in which, not so coincidentally, Hilty competes to play the role of Marilyn Monroe.

Acording to press notes “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes follows the madcap adventures of the original “dumb blonde,” Lorelei Lee, as she sets sail for Europe with her best friend Dorothy Shaw. As Dorothy puts it, the gold-digging Lorelei is “the only girl in the world who can stand on a stage with a spotlight in her eye and still see a diamond inside a man’s pocket.” The musical is set in the Roaring Twenties.

Megan Hilty made her Broadway debut as Glinda in Wicked, a role she she also performed with the national tour and in Los Angeles. Hilty also played Doralee in the Broadway production of 9 to 5: The Musical. Currently, Hilty is in production on the animated film “Dorothy of Oz” with Kelsey Grammer, Hugh Dancy and Lea Michele as well as starring in NBC’s new musical series “Smash.”

John Rando will direct Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which features music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Leo Robin and a book by Anita Loos and Joseph Fields. Performances are scheduled for May 9-13.
