A Review of By the Way, Meet Vera Stark (Off Broadway)
By Ashley Hallmark, May 03, 2011
I saw By the Way, Meet Vera Stark (Off Broadway) on 04/17/11. Overall, I'd say it was a 3-star rating. I'd summarize it by saying “A look at black women in the early film industry, great set design but slightly confusing story.”
I had a amusing time and left the show feeling let down by the ending and disappointed . I'd describe the show as informative, amusing, and creative. The set design was a highlight of the show because the theater space is used creatively. If this were a movie, I'd rate it PG. I would recommend this show to friends but not to children.
I saw this show because I was given tickets by a friend. I would see it again. I sat in the center orchestra area of the theater. The view was fine and the seats were hard and not comfortable.
I read some thing about this show before I saw it and I was glad I did, the first act is vastly different from the second. I loved the final scene but I thought it was out of place. Very creative look on black actors in the late 1940's!
