Newsies star Jeremy Jordan will join season two of NBC’s musical series “Smash,” according to Jordan, a 2012 Tony Award nominee for his portrayal of Jack Kelly in the award winning Newsies will play a reportedly Danny, a very sexy (and straight), musically gifted Brooklyn-born singer with a self-destructive streak.

Jordan’s new character is one of three roles that will be added under new show-runner Josh Safran. As previously reported, NBC is on the prowl for the role of an African American chorus girl in her mid-to-late 20s who packs a powerhouse voice. She is “incredibly attractive and confident, but also open-minded and non-judgmental.” The network also seeks another Brooklyn boy. This one in his early-to-mid 20s,“gay, very cute, incredibly open and optimistic.”

The new trio will occupy the space left by departing cast members Will Chase (Michael Swift), Jaime Cepero (Ellis), Raza Jaffrey (Dev) and Brian D’Arcy James (frank).

Jeremy Jordan will continue to play his Tony Award nominated role on Broadway while he shoots “Smash.”

“Smash” also features recent Tony Award winner Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher), Debra Messing, Jack Davenport and Anjelica Huston.

“Smash” is set to return sometime midseason.
