kinky bootsThe shiny new red musical, Kinky Boots, with a score by pop icon Cindy Lauper, opened on Broadway April 4, 2013.  Directed by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and with a book by Harvey Fierstein (Hairspray, torch Song Trilogy), Kinky Boots is an musical adaptation of the 2005 film of the same name.

The uplifting story tells of Charlie Price (Stark Sands), who inherits a shoe factory from his father, and Lola (Billy Porter) a drag queen who, together save the factory from closing by creating a new line of boots for the niche drag queen market.  Along the way, Charlie finds love with a regular-girl factory worker and everyone onstage learns tolerance and acceptance.
